Renowned for its sparkling coastlines, budget-friendly resorts, and electrifying nightlife, Thailand welcomed the largest number of Indian visitors among Southeast Asian countries in 2024.

According to a statement released by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) in December 2024, over two million tourists from India traveled to Thailand during the year, marking a major milestone in bilateral tourism. This achievement underscores India’s status as one of the most vital markets for Thailand’s travel industry.

In the previous year, 2023, Indian travelers contributed significantly to the Thai economy, generating a tourism revenue of nearly 61.9 billion Baht. The trend continued to rise in 2024, when Thailand recorded a total of over 35.5 million international arrivals, with Indian tourists making up approximately 2.1 million of that number.

Why Is Thailand So Popular Among Indian Travelers?

Thailand continues to draw Indian visitors throughout the year, with peak travel typically occurring from November to February. This period aligns with winter breaks for many Indian schools, making it an ideal time for families to vacation.

The destination holds immense appeal for solo travelers, couples, and families alike. Several key advantages make Thailand especially attractive to Indian tourists—most notably its short flying time from India, relatively low travel expenses, and a wide range of tourism offerings.

Another significant factor fueling this surge is Thailand’s visa policy. Indian nationals currently enjoy visa-free access to Thailand, a policy that has been extended “until further notice,” significantly easing travel logistics and encouraging last-minute holiday plans.

Top Travel Spots in Thailand for Indian Tourists

Thailand’s diverse range of experiences ensures it remains a favorite among Indian travelers. Cities and regions such as Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Chon Buri, Chiang Mai, and Phang-nga are among the most visited.

Phuket and Krabi are particularly celebrated for their sun-kissed beaches and exciting marine adventures, including snorkeling, diving, and island hopping. These coastal destinations attract beach lovers and thrill-seekers in equal measure.

In the bustling capital, Bangkok, visitors can indulge in world-class shopping, explore historic landmarks such as the Grand Palace and temples like Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Arun, or unwind at one of the city’s iconic rooftop lounges offering panoramic views.

Chiang Mai, nestled in Thailand’s mountainous north, offers a more tranquil escape. It’s admired for its rich cultural heritage, ancient temples, scenic hills, and lively night bazaars. Additionally, it serves as a gateway for ethical elephant sanctuaries and nature tours, appealing to eco-conscious travelers.

A Gateway to Seamless Getaways

With its welcoming culture, picturesque landscapes, and seamless travel experience, Thailand has firmly cemented its position as the top choice for Indian holidaymakers in Southeast Asia. Whether it’s a luxury escape, an adventure trip, or a family vacation, Thailand delivers a memorable experience that continues to draw travelers back year after year.

Southeast Asia tourism hit record highs in 2024 as Thailand welcomed over two million Indian travelers, driven by visa-free entry and the allure of exotic island adventures.
